Abstract drama of the British coast by Elaine Jones.
Aware of the threat of climate change and biodiversity loss, Elaine strives to show the wonder of nature through her oil paintings. As Elaine says, “I think it’s important to get back into nature; to be in it, to love and want to preserve. “
Elaine Jones has been painting professionally since 1998 and has been painting Salcombe landscapes for as long as she can remember.
A journey into the varied and often distant landscapes of Salcombe (a resort town in the South Hams area of Devon, South West England) is at the heart of Elaine’s pictorial practice, creating atmospheric and sensitive artworks by connecting an emotional response to the place.
As you look through the pictures, you see the changing seasons and almost taste the salt in the air; how a sunny perspective can suddenly turn into a threatening sky. Elaine balances serene vastness with gesticulating signs and a playful brightness that brilliantly captures the movement of light on the water. It is a complete immersion in the unpredictable nature of the sea, regardless of the season.
