Illustrations by Camila Nogueira in pastel colors and elegant lines, depicting the golden hour around the world.
Using lots of pink and playing with gentle light and shadows, Camila’s landscapes and cities are inspired by Japanese prints and Franco-Belgian comics. Her illustrations are based on sunrises or sunsets – the perfect golden hour when the world seems to take on a whole new tone.
I am inspired by nature itself. The soft colors of early morning and afternoon, flying birds, light falling on city buildings and water, shapes, color gradients in the sky are a magical moment.
The Porto-based freelance artist describes her work as “realistic”, “taking influences from the real world”, mixing them with “elements and colors of fantasy”. She combines simple lines with pastel gradients to depict this “morning or afternoon calm”.
I am also a big fan of the Edo period ukiyo-e. I am very inspired by the way the Japanese portrayed landscapes, fauna and flora, and how they treated light. ” As for the comics that she draws inspiration from, Camila points to The Adventures of Tintin (Ergé), Asterix and Blueberry (Mobius).
Camila studied fine arts, earned her BA in Communication Design (Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Porto) and MA in Animation and Illustration.
My first job was as a designer in a small studio in Porto, but I quickly realized that this was not exactly what I was looking for, so I decided to take a part-time job and try a career as a freelancer, focusing mainly on illustration.
